That sounds very enlightened! I think a playground is an idyllic spot for a box of wine. I also imagine that boxes are more widely available in Europe than here. Stigma is still pretty strong here. As if a glass bottle improved what was inside...

Here in Antwerp you get yourself a fancy wine box cooler and take the whole lot to the local playground. Parents will gather around and have a glass of wine to relax while the kids go crazy in the playground. It beats therapy...

Love it! And I'm on it! Thanks for the suggestion!!!
And isnt' it terrible that we all do that? There was a fantastic article in the NYT--a father realizes he has gone too far when he considers eating a piece of mozzarella that fell on the ground... at the zoo.
Will post link when I find it!

To be honest, I haven't noticed that as a pattern for me. Some people complain about sulfites, but truth is that other things, like dried fruit or orange juice, have much higher levels and would logically have a stronger effect on people.
My opinion is that the likely culprit is the alcohol. Someone who is very tired (like a mom!) might fall asleep hard and awaken early. There is a great line from Moonstruck when Olympia Dukakis complains that her husband drinks too much, falls asleep to hard, then "later he'll be up when he should be down."
Maybe that is what happens to us? :)

I have a post idea for you. Wine pairings with kiddie food. Mac and Cheese, chicken nuggets. You can even do two versions: Kraft Mac and Cheese and a gourmet version of Mac and Cheese. The idea is that moms end up eating kiddie food because kids waste food so a wine pairing is funny.

You are right that when foodies discuss wine pairings they think in upscale restaurant-speak and not in busy mom-speak which is my reality.

Question: my mom friends think that a single glass of wine is causing them insomnia -- a 3 am wake up call that lasts at least an hour. What is your take on this? Is this happening to you?
